Notes and Sources

1. Letter signed "Johnnie Liang", and dated Oct. 8, 1935, 114 Whakee Avenue Bubbling Well Rd, Shanghai, from Yung Shang Him (Rong Shangqian 容尚谦 I, 6) to Woo Yang Tsang (Wu Yangzeng 吴仰曾 I, 3), [p. 3]: 4 typed sheets, with autograph signature, in LaFargue (Pullman).

2.  Most early Chinese sources give 1863 (癸亥 Gui Hai) as Wong's birth year; the biographical entry for "Wong, Yew-cheong (Y.C. Wong)" in the bilingual Who's Who of American Returned Students, published in 1917, gives his birth year as 1860 and his current age as "57 岁." See Who's Who (1917; 1978), p. 139-40.  This source provides most of the data in this profile.
