| "Among the graduates of the Norwich Free Academy, Wednesday evening, June 30, was a young Chinaman named Wood [sic] Poy Chin, who was sent to this country almost in his infancy to be educated. He has passed through all the grades of the common schools and has now, at the end of six years, gone through the Academy in three years. Thus, in little more than six years, he has accomplished more than it takes the average youth twelve years to accomplish. He will go to Providence to enter Brown University next fall."9

By the time of his graduation from Norwich Academy, Wed., 30 June 1880, Chun may already have chosen to enter Yale, rather than Brown, since he would have been required to pass the entrance exams for admission to Yale as a Freshman two days later, Fri.-Sat., 2-3 July 1880. Classes in Yale's "Academical Department" began Thur., 16 September 1880. (The Yale Banner, Vol. xxxvi [New Haven, 1879]; Vol. xxxvii [New Haven, 1880]).
